Border Utility professionals in Sonora graduate from Basic Water Utility Management Program

A graduation ceremony was held for the 26 utility professionals that completed the diploma-level course, Basics of Water Utility Management, offered by the North American Development Bank (NADB) and taught by the Latin American and Caribbean water center, Centro del Agua para América Latina y el Caribe (CDA), of the Monterrey Technological Institute (ITESM) in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.

Representatives of NADB, the CDA, the ITESM School of Engineering and Sciences and the ITESM School of Government and Public Transformation (EGyTP) gathered last October 20 in the Multiuse room of the School of Business at the ITESM Hermosillo Campus to hand out diplomas to the participants from 11 utilities who completed the program requirements.

The program consists of five modules and is intended to strengthen the administrative, financial and leadership capabilities necessary to achieve the optimal operation of a water utility. To obtain a diploma and receive ITESM accreditation, participants must deliver a project that has been validated by ITESM and can be applied to their respective water utility.

The graduates represent the water utilities from the communities of Cajeme, Caborca, Cananea, Hermosillo, Guaymas, Navojoa, Puerto Peñasco, San Luis Río Colorado, Nacozari, Ures and Álamos, as well as personnel from the Sonora state water agency, Comisión Estatal del Agua de Sonora.

The ceremony was presided over by Sergio Ávila, CEA Executive Director; Alberto Mendoza Domínguez, CDA Academic Coordinator; and Jorge Silva, NADB Program Specialist.

In 2015, NADB, CDA and the ITESM School of Engineering signed an agreement to implement a diploma-level program and this group is the second class to graduate from this program.
